General Questions

How long does a typical deployment take?

Deployment timelines depend on facility size, the number of assets, and integration complexity. VastVision follows a structured process of assessment, solution design, deployment, and optimization, designed to reduce risk and accelerate time to value. Contact us for a timeline estimate based on your environment.

What environmental conditions can VastVision sensors monitor?

In addition to location, VastVision devices can monitor temperature, humidity, rotation and orientation, and gas exposure. This combined location and condition data helps teams protect assets, meet compliance requirements, and respond to environmental risks before they escalate.

Does VastVision integrate with our existing WMS or ERP?

Yes. VastVision is API-first and hardware-agnostic, designed to integrate directly with the enterprise systems your team already runs, including warehouse management and ERP platforms. Location and sensor data flow through the IoT Automation Platform and can trigger alerts, rules, and system actions in your existing tools.

Does VastVision design its own hardware?

Yes. VastVision designs, fabricates, and tests its own devices in an institutional-grade research and fabrication laboratory in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The lab includes a cleanroom for photolithography, thin-film deposition, and laser micromachining, plus scanning electron microscopy and RF testbeds for UHF RFID, UWB, and LoRaWAN validation.

What is the difference between LoRaWAN and GPS tracking?

LoRaWAN is a low-power, long-range network you deploy yourself with no recurring SIM fees, ideal for fixed facilities and campuses where battery life is measured in years. GPS+SIM is better for wide-area outdoor tracking across cities or countries, but it is power-hungry and carries ongoing connectivity costs. Most industrial asset tracking stays within a facility or campus, where LoRaWAN is the more cost-effective choice.

How is UWB different from RFID?

Ultra-Wide Band (UWB) provides centimeter-level real-time location, making it ideal for knowing exactly where an asset is inside a facility. UHF RFID provides lower-cost identification and zone-level presence at longer range. Many VastVision deployments use both together: UWB where precision matters and RFID for scalable, cost-effective identification.

What is RFID middleware?

RFID middleware is the software layer that sits between RFID readers and your enterprise systems. It filters, deduplicates, and translates raw tag reads into meaningful business events, then routes them to platforms like your WMS or ERP. VastVision's middleware is hardware-agnostic and API-first, so it works with the readers and systems you already run.
